Overview
Estimated Duration: 5 Days
Gain a deeper understanding of how the human body functions at rest and responds to exercise.
The Exercise Physiology short course provides learners with an introduction to the physiological systems which support human movement, health, and exercise performance. Throughout the short course, students will explore how the body's major systems work together to produce movement, maintain homeostasis, generate energy, and adapt to physical activity.
Whether you are entering the health and fitness industry, studying towards a healthcare profession, or simply wanting to refresh your understanding of physiology, this course provides a practical and accessible foundation in human physiology and its application to exercise.
Throughout this course you will explore:
- The organisation of the human body and the functions of major body systems.
- The structure and function of the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems.
- How the body produces energy during exercise.
- Cardiovascular and respiratory responses to physical activity.
- The roles of the endocrine, digestive, urinary, and lymphatic systems.
- Fluid balance, thermoregulation, and environmental influences on exercise.
- Acute responses and long-term physiological adaptations to exercise.
Develop a deeper appreciation of how the human body functions and how exercise influences every major physiological system.
This course is perfect for....
- Fitness professionals seeking a better understanding of exercise physiology.
- Sports coaches wanting to better understand athlete performance.
- Healthcare professionals looking to refresh their physiology knowledge.
- Teachers and educators involved in health or physical education.
- Individuals interested in understanding how the human body works during exercise and everyday life.
What's in Store for You?
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the level of body organisation and the basic functions of major body systems.
- Explain the structure and function of the skeletal and muscular systems in movement.
- Explain neuromuscular control and its relevance to exercise performance.
- Explain the energy systems and metabolic processes involved in exercise.
- Describe the structure and function of the cardiovascular, respiratory and lymphatic systems in exercise.
- Explain the role of the digestive, urinary, and endocrine systems in exercise and homeostasis.
- Explain fluid balance, thermoregulation and environmental influences on exercise performance.
- Describe the acute physiological responses and chronic adaptations to exercise.
Assessments
There will be a set of questions following each chapter in the short course. The pass mark for each set is 80%. You have multiple attempts to achieve this mark.
A certificate of completion will be issued once all of the questions have been completed.
